Miss Christine E. Nassen, 62, of Smith Street, Canajoharie, New York died Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at her home.
Born on June 23, 1952 in Jamaica Queens, NY, she was the daughter of Kaare B. Nassen and Miriam E. Boos Nassen. She was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and received her Master's degree in Education from Syracuse University. She had been a resident of the Fort Plain, Canajoharie area since 1974, previously residing in Long Island.
Miss Nassen taught at Fort Plain Central School from 1974 until her retirement in 2007. Most recently she taught 6th Grade Math. Her life revolved around her teaching. In 1995 she was awarded Teacher of the Year. She served as Elementary Yearbook Advisor, Gifted and Talented Advisor, grades 3-6 Department Coordinator and Computer Coordinator. She volunteered her time and talents to many school activities and spearheaded the Christmas Wish Carnival.
She is survived by her mother, Miriam Nassen; sister, Nancy and Joseph Kinneary; nieces, Colleen Kinneary and her fiancée, Brian McCabe, Elizabeth and Scott Kartagener; great-niece, Grace Kartagener; sister-in-law, Lynanne Nassen; and close friend, Danial Taylor.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
