Victor Ferraro, 92  passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 at Palatine Nursing Home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania on September 18, 1926 the son of Frank Ferraro and Rose Pinzone. When he was child, the family moved to Brooklyn, New York where he attended New York City Schools. As a young man he worked as a salesman at Howard Cloths.

In 1949 he married Sophie Santucci and in 1952, a job at Beech-Nut Foods brought the young couple upstate to Canajoharie. He often told the story of his first visit to Canajoharie, taking a train from Grand Central Station, a trip that at the time cost approximately $3.00 both ways. They walked across Palatine Bridge to the Wagner Hotel, had a chicken dinner and the next day he accepted a position at Beech-Nut and made plans to relocate permanently to the village.  With the exception of a year in the early 1960’s when he owned a downtown business, he continued working at Beech-Nut until his retirement in 1987. After retirement, he was employed by Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home in Canajoharie for 20 years.

Vic was a devoted husband and father. His three children had wonderful memories of holiday trips to New York City to visit grandparents, aunts and uncles. After his retirement, Vic and his wife Sophie made numerous trips to Italy to visit family and friends.  He was also an active member of the Canajoharie Community. He was a member of St Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, currently Our Lady of Hope parish, for 66 years. He was active in the Fort Rensselaer Club acting as the club’s steward for 20 years.
