Jake Enright, 87, of Ames, New York passed peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, July 15, 2012.
He was born at home on March 22, 1925 to Thomas James Enright and Anna Mae Wessel Enright. Growing up Jake shared a special bond with his 1 sister and 2 brothers, Kenneth Enright (Ames, NY) and predeceased Mildred Cole (Schenectady, NY) and Thomas Enright (Ames, NY).
He attended Ames Academy and Canajoharie Central School. Upon completion he owned and operated the family farm.
On July 31, 1948 he married the love of his life, Geraldine Bailey. They shared 64 years together.
Three daughters were blessed to have them as parents, Pam Bowerman (Spike), Patty Yacobucci (Rod) and Penny Biltucci (Clinton), all residing in the local area; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren shared his love, kindness and mischievousness over the years. He also shared these attributes with many nieces and nephews.
Jake contributed to the area he so loved. He served as a Town Justice and Town Councilman for many years. Throughout his life he was a member of the Canajoharie Co-Op, Sprout Brook Rod and Gun Club, The Buel Grange, The Ames Cornerstone Baptist Church and the proudest member of the Montgomery County Democrat Committee. He volunteered his service to the Ames Fire Department assisting Ames Old Home Day Events and Pancake Breakfast. Jake also coordinated the annual release of pheasants to be enjoyed by area residents.
He spent his free time driving the local area roads enjoying nature and visiting with friends and neighbors. Some of his fondness memories were hunting with the Ames Gang and playing cards with his friends at Charlie's. Also, he was an avid New York Met fan.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 11:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Pastor Carl Hawver officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery.
