Mrs. Catherine Crews, 80, of Rt. 163, Fort Plain, New York, died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home with her loving family by her side.
Born on December 17, 1930 in Canajoharie, NY, she was the daughter of George Searles and Lucinda Trumble Searles. She was a graduate of Springfield Central School, class of 1949 and had been a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Crews was a mother and a homemaker. She also helped her husband on the farm and the family business.
She was of Lutheran faith.
Mrs. Crews loved the outdoors and birds. She enjoyed sewing, making clothes and crocheting.
On December 17, 1949 at the Saltspringville Church, she was married to James R. Crews, Sr. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
She is predeceased by her parents; sister, Doris Maring; 2 brothers, Donald and Robert Searles.
Mrs. Crews is survived by her husband, James R. Crews, Sr. of Fort Plain, NY; 2 daughters, Sharon and Rodney Reynolds of Fort Plain, NY, Bonnie and George Hogan of Fort Plain, NY; son, James and Bonnie Crews, Jr. of Fort Plain, NY; brother-in-law, Roger Crews of Fort Plain, NY; 5 sisters-in-law, Linda West of Little Falls, NY, Barbara Pedrick of GA, Isabell Searles of East Springfield, NY, Margaret Crews of Canajoharie, NY, Irma Crews of Little Falls, NY; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery in the Spring.
